This project showcases the diverse uses of a media room. One part home theater, one part video arcade, and one part night club, this room truly delivers the goods. At the center of the room is an LG 77″ OLED TV with rich colors and pitch-black contrast—immersive audio emanates from 11 discrete channels, including four overhead channels dedicated to Dolby Atmos playback. To maximize the immersive experience, we installed four bass shaker transducers onto the underside of the couch. Explosions and dinosaur footsteps energize the entire couch (and your body) for a truly immersive experience that only contributes to the experience and never distracts.
The sound comprises JBL Synthesis HDI speakers on the floor or “bed” level and KEF in-ceiling speakers for the overhead sounds. A Marantz flagship preamplifier decodes the sound while Parasound and Outlaw Audio amps power the speakers. Critical listening reveals pristine clarity and warmth of the audio signal, while the JBLs provide a force and realism that matches, if not exceeds, most commercial cinemas and concert venues.Â
Because this is a media room and not a dedicated theater, this room does much more than playback movies with stunning realism. The system’s owner is also a DJ and wanted to be able to spin his favorite tunes on his home theater system. We sourced and assembled a DJ table and decorative screen to conceal wires. The DJ mixer is connected via balanced cables directly into the Marantz preamplifier to integrate the two systems and leverage all 11 channels.
Last but not least, this family likes to game together, so we integrated two additional TV monitors and PS5s on a side table so the father and his kids can play games such as Fortnite in the same room.
